We spent two nights at the Mount Kenya Safari Club at the base of Mount Kenya.
The grounds were beautiful. You can see what it was frequented by the likes of William Holden, Bing Crosby and Winston Churchill
There was a maze on the grounds that none of us tried to navigate
The courtyard
Directly across from our rooms were the spa and fitness center (bottom floor) and the restaurant above it.
Our room was the second from the left on the second floor.
Another view of the restaurant and spa/fitness center. The lounge is on the left.
This walk way leading from the bar through the courtyard lies along the equator.
The equatorial walk way.
We had to capture the occasion.
We were given a demonstration where pan filled with water would drain in a clockwise direction north of the equator and then performing the same test a hundred feet away, the water would flow out in a counter-clockwise direction. Science is real!
We had a ceremony celebrating the fact that we crossed the equator.
We all participated in this ritual.

After lunch we walked next door to the Animal sanctuary established by William Holden

The animals who can are set free into their native environment otherwise they will stay here.
This baby zebra was available for adoption and Resa and Dave jumped at the opportunity to do so. They named her Resa on to find out later that it was a male.
These guys were craving attention.
After the nursery, we went on a game drive through the Ol Pejeta Conservancy , home to the largest black rhino population in East Africa
Black Rhino
The two female northern white rhinos are the last of their species.
Northern White Rhino - As you can see they are not white at all. The word "wide" refers to the width of the rhinoceros's mouth. So early English-speaking settlers in South Africa misinterpreted the "wijd" for "white" and the rhino with the wide mouth ended up being called the white rhino and the other one, with the narrow pointed mouth, was called the black rhinoceros.
The rhino on the left is a southern white male. The conservancy is hoping to mater the male with the two females.

A cemetery and memorial on the site. It's senseless that these animals are killed to extinction for their horns.
We visited the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary founded by Jane Goodall. The visit was a bust since the chimps had no use for us.

Marabou Stork - a proud member of the "Ugly Five"
Marabou Stork
This Black and White Colobus monkey would climb down from the roof and eat the bird seed in the bird feeders and then jump on a table and steal the sugar packets. Our table was just below this feeder.
