Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands have been very high on our bucket list for quite some time. As usual we decided to depend on Tauck for this trip. We were not disappointed. The two venues could not have been more different. In Peru we got a glimpse into the Inca people through the temples and cities that they built. The scenery was fantastic. The hotel accommodations were first class and the food was wonderful. On the Galapagos, the focus was primarily on the non-human creatures, both below and above the water. Our tour director liked to characterize our week in the islands as an "Expedition". You are either hiking over lava fields and taking in the animals and the birds or you were in the water snorkeling. I swim as well as a rock so this was not an option I embarked upon and hence we have no underwater pictures. We did buy an underwater camera that Tamara used but the quality was rather poor. The accommodations on the boat were fine and the food was really good. While I don't consider myself a photographer of wildlife, photographing the animals on the islands was fantastic because they had no natural fear of humans. One could get up close and personal with the wild life. I still kept my distance from the Iguanas. They looked too prehistoric.
