Across the street from our hotel along the bluffs on the ocean.
Lima has a population of approximately ten million. We stayed in the Miraflores district which is on the southern end of town.
Our hotel, the Belmond Mirafloras Park
Just up the coast from our hotel was the Marriott.
Across from the hotel was a shopping center built into the cliffs.
An acquaintance of ours had been in Lima a week before we left and recommended this restaurant to us. It specialized in Amazon food.
They featured giant snails as an appetizer. We just had to try them.
The meat was chopped and cooked in a broth. Very tasty but the meat was tough.
On our first morning of our tour, we went to Larco Herrera Museum.
These pots were used to carry liquids. The design was to prevent spillage. I was surprised they had so many in such pristine condition.
One of the many items of jewelry on display
Have no idea what these were used for. They are about 4" across so too large and heavy for ear rings.
A knife and cup used in a sacrifice ceremony

The Quipus
An actual Quipus. This is basically a page in a ledger.
This succulent in the garden outside the museum reminded me of the deformed Saguaro cactus in Arizona.
In the afternoon we went to the Mamacona Hacienda to see the Paso Horses.
We were first entertained with some local dancing.
The Peruvian Paso horse is known for it exceptionally smooth ride due to it unique lateral gate.
The ride is incredibly smooth
A colt with its mother
My brother-in-law, Tom looked quite natural on the horse.
Tam had to have here turn on the horse.
This is a war memorial in downtown Lima. We were going to dinner at a historic home in the downtown area. It was about 10 miles from our hotel. Since this was the Wednesday before Easter and Thursday and Friday were holidays, it took us over an hour and a half to get to the home.
The sun had already set by the time we got to the main square. A bit dark for picture taking.
The house was basically a museum.
A courtyard in the middle of the house.
A chapel off the main sitting area.
