The spire consists of an external staircase that twists round four times. On the way to the top, protection is provided in the form of a gilded iron railing. At the very top stands the gilded globe, from which a similarly gilded, flag-bearing Christ figure looks out over the city. From the ground to the flag, it is 90 metres . There are 400 steps, 150 of which are outside. The globe is 2.5 metres in diameter, and the Christ figure is 3 metres high.
