After spending a day and a half in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, we spent the morning in Pompeii on our way to Rome. While the site provided us with views of mosaics and frescos which were quite beautiful, most of the artifacts were actually housed in the museum in Naples. This would have to be a "must see" on our next trip to Italy.

Pompeii is know for the massive explosion of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD which covered the city in ash. What I didn't know was that a rather strong earthquake shook the region 17 years earlier in 62 AD. Walking around the runis, we can see the repairs that were made due to damage from the quake.
