The Ptolemaic (the "P" is silent) history of Egypt begins with the death of Alexander the Great in 325 B.C. and ends with the death of Cleopatra (IV) in 30 B.C. When Alexander the Great died, his empire was divided up amongst his Macedonian generals, with Ptolemy becoming the ruler of Egypt. While Greek Gods were introduced to the culture, the Ptolemies cultivated the Egyptian gods and ruled much like Egyptian Pharaohs, erecting large temples along the Nile. We visited three of the more famous temple of that era.
