The Treasury

The treasury got it's name from the Nabataeans who called it Khaznet al-Faraoun, or Pharaoh's Treasury. They believed that in pursuing the Israelites after the exodus, the Pharaoh was slowed down by carrying all his treasure, so he created the treasury and stored all his riches in the urn at the very top of the facade. Quite an imagination! While the story has no basis in fact, the name stuck.
