Bab el-Siq

Very close to the entrance to the site, we encounter our first ruin. It's called "Bab el-Siq" which literally means doorway to the Siq in Arabic. The Siq is the famous canyon that we walk through to get to the ruins of Petra. Unlike much of Petra, this is not a tomb but a hall to house banquets and symposia which were occasionally held to honor the deceased.
