Oberhaus Fortress

The number displayed is 1499. The story goes that there was no character for the number "4", so the "half-eight" was used instead as symbolized but the lower mark next to the "I" being the symbol for half and the next character being the symbol for "8". Hard to imagine you would have characters for 1,8,9 and 1/2 but not 4. But what do I know...I'm an engineer!
