This building has had quite a past. It started out the Church of St. John in the 13th century then was used a Mosque by the Ottomans until it was demolished in 1686 by the Christian armies who retook the city. In 1725 a Carmelite order built a Baroque church here which was converted to a theater in 1786 during the reign of Joseph II.
