The Centennial Flame was lit at the stroke of midnight on January 1, 1967 to commemorate Canada's 100th anniversary of confederation. Divided into 12 segments, the Centennial Flame includes bronze shields of each of the provinces and territories that existed in 1967, as well as their floral symbol and the date the province or territory joined the Confederation.
