Our stay in Mykonon included a half day on the nearby island of Delos. An island holy to the Ancient Greeks, it became a place of pilgrimage and worship to the Ionians and said to be the birthplace of Apollo. Later it became an important trading port in Hellenistic times and at one point it had over 30,000 inhabitants. Today it is one big open-air museum, with many of the ancient monuments and buildings remarkably intact.
