Big Bend National Park - 2018
I met my friend Clayton in Houston and we drove out to the park. On the way we stopped at the McDonald observatory which is part of the University of Texas
I had been listening to radio segments on what is happening in the night sky from the McDonald Observatory. We were so close to it I just had to drop by and see it. As you can imagine, there was not much going on during the day.

In the mountains near Balanced Rock at Sunrise. We hiked in about a mile to shoot the Sunrise at Balanced Rock. The hike wasn't too bad until we approached Balanced Rock where the trail had us climbing over and between rocks burdened with 25 pounds of camera gear. I did not make it so I and a few others shot from the trail.

Our hotel, the Chisos Mountain Lodge, was located in a basin. The western wall of the basin contained a cut looking out to the mesa to the west. This cut was called the Window

Ocotillo - This cactus looks like a dead shrub most of the time but when it gets some water it is filled with bright green petals and flowers in the spring.

Waiting and hoping for a great sunset near the west entrance to the park.
Our patience paid off. I was a decent sunset.
