When the eruption finally came there was lots of steam but not much of a geyser.

It started to snow as we started our hike up Geyser Hill.  We had these snow squalls all afternoon.

Solitary Geyser - It was supposed to erupt 4 feet every 5 to 7 minutes. After about 20 minutes it erupted about a foot.

When we reached the summit of Geyser Hill, we could see snow squalls approaching.  On the top left is the Old Faithful Inn.

We hiked the trail between Artist Point and the Upper Falls Overlook, a distance of about 1 mile.

The pile of rocks on the right are the result of a hydrothermal explosion that occurred in 1989.

Porkchop Geyser's narrow vent became constricted, throttling its flow of water and steam.  Heat and pressure intensified until it blew, throwing rocks 200 feet in the air.  Eight park visitors witnessed this eruption in September of 1989.  Fortunately no one was injured.

We just didn't have time to explore this area. A must see for the next trip.

The morning we were heading home we were treated to heavy wet snow.

The park was magical in the snow.

Of course I wasn't dressed for this and I had my camera gear packed.

This one had enough to sit out the squall under a tree.

This "Red Dog" had just crossed the road in front of us and then turned around to check us out.
