Korculans claim that Marco Polo was born in the house seen here on the left. There are other claims that he was from a Dalmatian family from Sibenik. Under this theory his name was Pile, which means chicken in Croatian and over time became Polo, the Italian name for chicken. As our guild told us, the only thing we know for sure is that he was born and died.
